Journey21 Overview:

Journey21’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and enriching living and learning options for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) in Waukesha County and surrounding communities.

Journey21 focuses on 5 primary services areas:

·       Learning/Education – Journey21 offers three learning academies: 1) 18-21 Transition Academy, 2) Life Academy, and 3) Summer Academy. The highly structured curriculum helps adults with developing their independent living skills, socialization skills and building community relationships. 

·       Employment – Within the learning academies, Journey21 also focuses career readiness training and provides opportunities for clients to participate in internships/work experiences where they can learn specific job skills.

·       Advocacy/Resources – Journey21’s team acts as a resource of information pertinent to clients, their families, and caregiver. For instance, webinars are held on long-term care, guardianship, financial planning, and more.

·       Programs, Outings, & Clubs – Journey21 offers various small and large group social outings that facilitate individual growth. Our programs are community-based out of Oconomowoc and are conducted in the surrounding area.

·       Residential Living – We will offer adults with IDD the opportunity to live in a condominium or cottage in The Journey of Pabst Farms, a vibrant and inclusive community where they can have friends, opportunities to grow and live independently.

 

Job Summary: 

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in achieving meaningful community engagement through internship and work experience placements, job coaching, and volunteer involvement. This position is responsible for building and maintaining employer and community partnerships. In addition, the Liaison is responsible for coordinating opportunities for volunteer engagement, providing training and support for job coaches and volunteers, and ensuring high-quality services that align with the organization’s mission and values.

Essential Job Functions:

Work Experience & Internship Support

  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor internship and community-based work experience placements for individuals served.

  • Provide individualized job coaching to participants, supporting skill development, workplace integration, and long-term success.

  • Conduct site visits to ensure quality placements, address challenges, and strengthen employer relationships.

  • Collaborate with employers to identify opportunities and ensure accommodations are in place when needed.

  • Develop and implement data collection analysis to evaluate placement/site effectiveness, partner satisfaction, and client success. As needed, recommend performance improvement plans.

Volunteer Program Management

  • Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers to support programs and services.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to foster engagement and retention.

  • Match volunteers to appropriate opportunities based on skills and interests.

  • Track volunteer hours, contributions, and impact for reporting purposes.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Fund Development on volunteer cultivation and progression into donor status.

Training & Development

  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to job coaches to ensure effective and person-centered support.

  • Develop and deliver orientation and training sessions for volunteers.

  • Ensure all staff and volunteers follow organizational policies, best practices, and safety procedures.

Administrative & Program Support

  • Maintain accurate records of work placements, job coaching progress, and volunteer activities using Journey21 databases and software.

  • Prepare reports as required by funders, leadership, and stakeholders.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to program planning and evaluation.

  • Represent the organization at community events and networking opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, rehabilitation, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities required.

  • Previous experience in job coaching, vocational support, or volunteer coordination strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse groups.

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with databases or case management systems.

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to community sites required.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office-based, community, and on-site job coaching environments.

  • Requires flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for volunteer events or employer needs.
