Simon Liljegren, Educational Assistant
I’m ecstatic to be part of the Journey21 team and to support a mission that reflects my passion for community, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
I earned my MBA and BS in Finance from Concordia University Wisconsin, where I was a 4-year member of the football program and received the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2023.
I have gained experience in financial services, customer relations, and event hospitality. Over time, I discovered how meaningful it is to apply those skills in roles that directly support others. I served as a job coach with Harrigan Development Services, where I worked alongside adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across customer service, hospitality, and operational roles. I also enjoy coaching with Special Olympics Ozaukee County during my free time, where I’ve been fortunate to lead programs in tee-ball, basketball, powerlifting, and flag football.
During a semester of study in Australia, I had the opportunity to connect with individuals from diverse international backgrounds, gaining invaluable insights into cross-cultural dynamics. This experience continues to shape my approach to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, as I emphasize the importance of adapting communication styles and fostering an inclusive environment.
I was drawn to Journey21 because of its deep commitment to creating safe, enriching, and empowering opportunities for adults with IDDs throughout the local communities. From employment training to education to rising residential living opportunities, the mission of Journey21 is truly transformative—and I’m excited to be a part of it.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active, spending time with family, and getting involved with local events!
